Demo, playtest, paid or subscription: which one am I getting?

GGPN shows how you can get into a game, whether that means a demo, purchase, subscription or sign-up. Use the Access filter to narrow your choices, then check the route on the game page before following Open official.

Try it on GGPN

  1. Open a GGPN game page and look at the listed way to play, not only the title or genre.
  2. Use Open official to check the current edition, price, plan or sign-up requirement.
  3. Return to Find your next game if you would rather filter for a different way to play.

Trying before buying

A demo is a slice of a game. A playtest helps a developer test an unfinished build and may need an invitation. Neither automatically includes the final game, and their modes can differ from the full release.

Buying a copy

Check the edition and what it includes. DLC or an expansion may need the base game; a bundle may contain several separate products. A preorder is a purchase for a future release, not proof you can play now.

Treat any displayed price as a starting point. The official checkout confirms your region, currency, taxes and current offer before you spend anything.

Playing through a subscription

Check that the game is included in your exact plan and platform. Catalogue access is different from buying a copy: games can leave, and expansions may be sold separately. Do not subscribe for one game without confirming its current listing.

So which should I choose?

If you are unsure whether you like the game, look for a public demo. If you already subscribe to a service, check what it includes before buying again. If your group needs dependable access on a set night, an invitation-only test is not the safest main plan.

Free to play and free-to-keep promotions have their own distinctions; the linked free-games guide walks through them.
